BREAKING: Nollywood Mourns As Veteran Actor Taiwo Hassan ‘Ogogo’ Dies At 66

Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died at the age of 66 after battling cancer.

The actor reportedly died on Sunday following his struggle with the illness.

A video circulating on social media showed his daughter, Kira Taiwo, crying as she announced his death, repeatedly saying, “My daddy is dead.”

The development came days after Kira and her sister, Haleemah, revealed that their father had been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. They had appealed for public support as the family searched for treatment options.

Before his death, Ogogo reportedly received hundreds of offers of medical, spiritual and other assistance from Nigerians, colleagues and well-wishers.

His close friend and colleague, Yinka Quadri, said more than 300 people, and possibly over 500, had contacted the family with offers to help.

Quadri said in an Instagram statement that the number of offers had become difficult for the family to manage, especially as they worked to identify treatments that would not affect Ogogo’s ongoing medical care.

Ogun State governorship aspirant, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Senator Yayi, also supported the actor and reportedly helped efforts to secure specialist medical care.

Actress Toyosi Adesanya had earlier said Adeola personally contacted cancer specialists and that Ogogo had been admitted for treatment.

However, before his death was announced, Kira alleged that some people were trying to profit from her father’s illness.

During an emotional TikTok live session on Saturday, she accused some people offering help of making financial demands.

Ogogo was a major figure in the Yoruba film industry and was known for his contributions to Nollywood over several decades.
