The House of Representatives has approved the Executive Bill to create state police.
Lawmakers passed the Bill during Thursday’s plenary after withdrawing their own proposed constitutional amendment on setting up state police across the country.
The approval marks a major step in Nigeria’s effort to reshape and decentralize its security system.
The development comes after the Senate earlier passed its own version of the Bill, moving the country closer to a dual policing system aimed at tackling rising cases of banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism.
