Bandits Gun Down Resident, Kidnap Nine in Kaduna on Nigeria’s Independence Day

Suspected bandits have killed a resident and abducted nine people, including his wife and two children, during an attack on Babban Saura (PW) community in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The attackers reportedly stormed three houses in the early hours of Thursday, as Nigerians marked the country’s 66th Independence Day.

A community source told NAN that the attackers first entered the home of an elderly man and took away two of his children.

They later broke through the fence of a man identified as Sikiru. The source said Sikiru confronted the attackers after they entered his parlour and struggled with some of them.

He was eventually shot dead, while his wife and two children were taken away.

The attackers also raided a nearby house and abducted Maman Mubarak and her four children. Soldiers and local vigilantes later rescued Mubarak, but her children remained in captivity.

Local vigilante commander Usman Adamu confirmed that nine people were initially abducted. He said the vigilantes alerted soldiers after receiving a distress call and both teams pursued the attackers.

“We received a distress call that bandits had entered Babban Saura PW, and so we informed soldiers who joined us.

“We traced them to the Eastern Bypass area and succeeded in rescuing a woman, Maman Mubarak, whose four children were among those kidnapped,” he said.

Adamu said the attackers escaped with the remaining victims.
