The Nigerian Army, working with the Office of the National Security Adviser Tactical Team, has destroyed a Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorist camp in the Kopre Mountain area of Hong Local Government Area, Adamawa State.
The operation was carried out early Wednesday following credible intelligence about terrorist activities in the area.
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai engaged the terrorists in two separate encounters, killing more than 21 of them. Others reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds.
The military said on X on Thursday that the troops also destroyed the terrorists’ logistics base and recovered several AK-47 rifles, magazines and a large quantity of 7.62mm ammunition.
Motorcycles, bicycles and jerrycans filled with Premium Motor Spirit were also destroyed.
Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), said the operation was part of efforts to rescue people abducted from Mussa community and the Lassa area.
“The Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, remains resolute in sustaining aggressive, intelligence-driven operations aimed at locating and rescuing abducted persons, dismantling terrorist strongholds, degrading their logistics and fighting capabilities,” Goni said.
He said search and rescue efforts were being intensified until all abducted persons were found and rescued.
The military high command praised the troops and ONSA Tactical Team for their “gallantry, professionalism, resilience and seamless coordination,” saying the operation showed the forces could take combat power into difficult terrain and restrict terrorists’ freedom of action.
