A fresh attack on communities in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State has left a soldier, a local hunter and a pregnant woman dead.
The incident happened on Tuesday night in Sarkin Yamma village, near the Jeb-Jeb area. Another soldier was also shot and injured.
According to Daily Trust, the armed attackers later invaded nearby Ruwan Zafi village, where they abducted 15 residents, including women and children.
Community leader Tanko Bobbo Andami confirmed the attack, saying five of the victims were rescued after soldiers and local hunters exchanged gunfire with the attackers. The gun battle forced the gunmen to flee into the forest with some of their captives.
Andami said about 15 people were still being held, raising concerns over the worsening security situation in the area.
He explained that residents had earlier appealed to the government to improve security before the deadly attack on Binnari town and the latest incident. He again urged the Taraba State and Federal Governments to act urgently and send enough security personnel to the area.
Karim-Lamido has witnessed repeated communal violence, ethnic clashes and attacks by armed groups this year, leading to deaths and destruction of property.
Although the Taraba State Government has declared the area a particular security concern, residents say the decision must come with enough security personnel to stop further attacks.
