Nigerian singer Speed Darlington has announced that he plans to support Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election, making it clear that his choice is based on their shared Igbo background rather than Obi’s intelligence.
The singer disclosed this in a post on his Instagram page, where he openly explained his reason for backing the former Anambra State governor.
“I am going to support Peter obi for president. Not because I see or hear the intelligence coming out of his mouth. I am supporting peter obi strictly because of tribe, because he is igbo”
Speed Darlington also questioned the records of other potential presidential contenders, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
He wondered what both politicians had achieved after spending years in public office. He also expressed concerns about the possibility of another Fulani president.
“The devil you know is better than the devil you don’t know. Atiku and amaechi has been state men for years, what did they accomplish?. Who even wants a Fulani president?”
The singer further criticised Nigerian politicians for repeatedly making road construction a campaign promise, describing it as shameful that the issue remains a major campaign talking point in 2026.
“Shame on all Nigerian politicians for still using road to campaign. It a big shame in 2026”
