Gunmen have abducted the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman of Rogo Local Government Area in Kano State, Alhaji Abdullahi Fanka.
The attackers reportedly stormed Beli town, Fanka’s hometown, at about 10:00pm on Monday, shooting sporadically before taking him away.
A resident told Daily Trust that efforts by locals to stop the gunmen failed.
“In the process of the shooting, they shot one Almajiri. He is still alive and receiving treatment,” the resident said.
The attackers reportedly escaped towards Babbarika village but left three motorcycles behind.
On Tuesday morning, residents allegedly spotted a Fulani man in Rogo town speaking Fulfulde and asking about the abandoned motorcycles. He was arrested, and his phones were seized before he was handed over to police.
The resident said the suspect remains in custody and is believed to be either one of the attackers or an informant.
He added that the suspect’s home is in Beli, which borders Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The abduction follows recent attacks in Kano. A day earlier, gunmen killed the APC Chairman in Rantan, Bebeji LG, and abducted his wife and two others.
