A 32-year-old Bank of America vice president, Erin Piacenti, lost her life after being stabbed in Times Square on Monday. Police say the attack appeared completely random and without reason.
Piacenti was knifed in the stomach and later died at a hospital, according to the New York Police Department. Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that the assault seemed unprovoked and pointed out that the suspect, later identified as Cisneros, had a known history of mental-health run-ins with officers.
Forbes reports that the situation ended when officers shot Cisneros following a standoff of about four minutes. Social media clips show police ordering her to drop her knives. Officers tried a Taser first, but when Cisneros moved toward them still holding weapons, they fired. She died right there.
Bank of America said it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by Piacenti’s death, calling her a “valued teammate who will be greatly missed.” She worked as a vice president in the business selection and conflicts unit. Her background includes a political science degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a law degree from Fordham.
This killing arrives as New York keeps a close watch on violent acts against high-profile professionals, like the 2024 shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. But authorities see no link between these cases.
Still, NYPD numbers show overall major crime complaints in the city are down 6.2% so far this year compared to the same stretch in 2025, and murders have dropped 24.6%. In the Midtown South precinct, which covers Times Square, only two murders had been recorded through August.
