Nigeria Democratic Congress Vice-Presidential Candidate, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has asked African Democratic Congress presidential candidate and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from the 2027 presidential election.
Kwankwaso made the appeal while hosting members of the Fulani Farmers Association at his Abuja residence. He urged Atiku to concentrate on his traditional role as Wazirin Adamawa, citing his age and health.
He also called on Atiku’s supporters to persuade him to leave the presidential race.
Kwankwaso said, “Go to the Wazirin of Adamawa’s house and tell him in Fulani that he needs to focus on his traditional title of Wazirin, given his age and health.
“If Allah grants us success, we will take good care of him, especially since you all come from Adamawa. An apology should be offered to him,” he said.
Atiku said in April that the 2027 election could be his final presidential contest because of his age and the importance of the election.
He previously contested in 2007, 2011, 2019 and 2023 but lost each time. He remains a supporter of restructuring, economic liberalisation and private sector-led growth.
