The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has thrown its support behind President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, adopting him as its preferred presidential candidate.
Anambra State Governor and APGA national leader, Prof. Charles Soludo, announced the decision on Friday in Awka during the launch of the party’s national campaign for the 2027 elections.
Soludo explained that APGA would not present its own presidential candidate but would back Tinubu, who is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“APGA has no presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections and will, therefore, adopt President Tinubu as its preferred candidate.
“Today, we adopt the APC Presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, as our candidate,” he said.
The governor said Tinubu had shown concern for the Igbo people, especially Anambra residents. He also recalled that Tinubu appointed several indigenes of Anambra to important positions in Lagos when he served as governor.
Soludo noted that APGA had supported presidential candidates of ruling parties in past elections, describing its latest decision as a continuation of that arrangement.
He recalled that Tinubu received only about 5,000 votes in Anambra during the 2023 election but had continued to address challenges facing the state and the Southeast.
Soludo urged residents to support Tinubu in 2027, saying it would help the region negotiate for development with the Federal Government.
He also pledged to deliver 50 per cent of the state’s votes to the president.
“We need to vote for him in order to sit with the government at the center and negotiate for the development of the Southeast and Anambra.
“We are targeting 50 percent for the president,” he said.
