Voting Atiku, Obi in 2027 Will Worsen Poverty in North, Yilwatda Warns

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has warned northern voters against supporting Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2027 presidential election.

Yilwatda spoke in Abuja while receiving former ADC candidates and members who defected to the APC. He rejected claims that President Bola Tinubu’s government has neglected the North, pointing to major road projects.

“The opposition, especially the ADC, has been painting stories of what does not exist. For example, they will tell you on Hausa radio programmes that Mr President doesn’t like the northern part of Nigeria. Let’s ask: where are the northern Nigerians? Where are you? We are part of the North.”

He cited the Abuja-Kano and Kano-Maiduguri highways, saying the two roads cover almost 1,000 kilometres, with the first nearly completed and the second almost 50 per cent complete.

Yilwatda also mentioned roads linking Abuja to Lokoja and Benue, Akwanga to Jos, Kwara to Mokwa, Sokoto to Kebbi, Kano to Daura and Zaria to Danja.

He opposed calls to restore fuel subsidy, saying it could affect road construction, gas, fertiliser, CNG and student loans.

He also said northern states had struggled to pay salaries before 2023 and urged the defectors to support Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
