The Bursar of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Nasiru Gusau Marafa, has reportedly been shot dead in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.
The university confirmed his death in a notice signed by its Registrar and Secretary to Council, Oladipo Ajayi, on Sunday.
According to Ajayi, Marafa was reportedly shot while returning from Gusau. However, the university gave no further details on the circumstances of the incident.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un,” the university stated.
The statement described Marafa as a “dedicated and committed staff member” who served the institution meritoriously and held several positions of responsibility.
He became NOUN Bursar in September 2022, taking up the role with “a strong sense of duty and commitment to the advancement of the University.”
The university said, “The entire University community mourns the passing of a distinguished colleague, dedicated administrator and valued member of the NOUN family.”
It expressed condolences to his family, relatives, friends and colleagues.
Further details on his burial will be released after the family provides the arrangements.
The university prayed that Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus and give his loved ones and the university community strength to bear the loss.
