President Bola Tinubu has appointed five elder statesmen to serve on the APC’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Council as a Body of Advisers.
The team includes former governors, a former APC national chairman, a veteran journalist and a former senator, with members drawn from different parts of the country.
Chief Bisi Akande, a former Osun State governor, played a key role in the formation of the APC and became the party’s first interim national chairman in 2013.
Chief Segun Osoba, a veteran journalist and former two-term Ogun State governor, brings years of experience in both journalism and politics to the team.
Senator Rochas Okorocha, who served as Imo State governor from 2011 to 2019 and represented Imo West in the Senate, adds a strong South-East voice. His time as governor included social programmes such as a controversial free education policy.
Senator Abdullahi Adamu, a former Nasarawa State governor, served as APC national chairman until 2023. His experience in party leadership and his links to the North are seen as important to the 2027 campaign.
Senator Florence Ita Giwa, a veteran lawmaker from Cross River, is among Nigeria’s pioneering female politicians of the post-military era. Her appointment also gives the advisory team a South-South voice and gender balance.
