President Bola Tinubu has urged his son, Seyi Tinubu, to build on his work with the City Boy Movement, serve harder and become a role model for future generations.
The President gave the advice on Monday during an event organised by the group at the State House. He praised Seyi for bringing young people together without seeking a political position or title.
“Now permit me a personal moment, with my son, Seyi. I have watched what you’ve started with City Boy. I got some calls within the last few weeks asking me what is Seyi running for. He’s running after his father,” Tinubu said.
He also praised Seyi and his colleagues for spending their time reaching out to young people, listening to them and organising them.
“You and your young colleagues, you are investing your time effectively. We are with you. Thank you. You did it humbly. You did not ask for a title or an office.
“You went to the young people, your age groups, your group. You listened to them and you organized them. I am proud of all of you,” the President said.
Tinubu, however, told his son that there was still more work ahead.
“But I will tell you what every father tells his son. You have only started. Do more.
“Go further. Serve harder. Set an example that your own children, my grandchildren, will be proud to follow,” he said.
He added that Nigerians were watching the younger generation and should see serving the country as the highest honour.
“Nigeria is watching so they know that to serve your country is the highest honour,” he said.
Seyi is the patron of the City Boy Movement, which mobilises young people in support of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through grassroots activities and public participation.
The President’s comments come amid growing attention to Seyi’s political activities. At his 41st birthday colloquium in Lagos on October 12, he urged young Nigerians to take part in decision-making and help shape the country’s future.
