At least three people have been killed in a late-night attack near the Barkin Ladi-Bokkos border in Plateau State, just hours before Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, is due in the state over rising security threats.
Conflict reporter Masara Kim said the attack happened on Tuesday night around communities along the Barkin Ladi and Bokkos Local Government Areas border.
The killings add to a wave of violence that has reportedly left at least 20 people dead across Plateau State in the past week.
Disu is expected to arrive in Jos on Wednesday, September 16. His visit follows recent attacks in Mangu and Dungus Junction, Kuru, where at least nine passengers were killed after suspected gunmen opened fire on a commercial bus on September 13.
Berom Youth Moulders spokesman, Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the attack and said several other passengers suffered gunshot injuries and were taken to hospitals.
The Plateau State Police Command said Disu will arrive at Jos Airport at 9:30am. He is scheduled to meet Governor Caleb Mutfwang at 10:30am, visit NIPSS at noon and inspect the Police Staff College at 3pm.
On Thursday, September 17, he will inspect the state police headquarters at 10am before leaving through Jos Airport at 2pm.
“The Plateau State Police Command cordially invites members of the media on the Plateau to cover the official visit of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to Plateau State,” the command said.
The visit is expected to focus on stronger security operations, protecting communities and preventing further attacks.
