Three suspects have been arrested over the killing of four members of a family during a robbery at Oloba Village in Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The suspects, identified as Hammed Akinbami, Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward, allegedly attacked the home of Ifeanyi Chukwu on September 22, 2026, at about 7pm. Chukwu, his wife and their four children were killed during the incident.
Oyo Police spokesperson Ayanlade Olayinka said detectives arrested the suspects on October 2 at about 5pm after acting on intelligence gathered during the investigation.
According to him, the suspects used a locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and a club. They reportedly stole ₦200,000, a Boxer motorcycle, a Doma machine with chainsaw and a spraying machine.
“In the course of the attack, Hammed Akinbami shot the husband, while Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward inflicted injuries on the wife by hitting her on the head.
“The attack subsequently took a fatal turn as the suspects tied two of the children by their hands and legs and threw them into a nearby river, while the remaining members of the family were killed and their bodies disposed of in the same river,” the statement said.
Police recovered the motorcycle, Dane gun, cutlasses and club at the scene. The suspects reportedly confessed during interrogation.
“The remains of the wife have since been recovered, while concerted efforts are ongoing to recover the remains of the four other victims, all members of the same family, who were dumped in the river,” he said.
The suspects and case file will be transferred to the SCID, Iyaganku, for further investigation and legal action. CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga ordered a thorough investigation to ensure those responsible face justice.
