Nine bodies have been recovered along the Wawa-Lumma road in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State after an attack suspected to have been carried out by bandits.
The victims were reportedly travelling on the road when they were attacked and killed.
The Niger State Police Command confirmed the discovery on Wednesday. Its spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said security personnel were sent to the area after receiving information about the attack on Tuesday.
Abiodun told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that police and military personnel recovered the bodies from the scene.
He added that security forces had increased clearance operations in the area to restore safety and prevent further attacks.
The incident happened shortly after security agencies rescued 308 people abducted in separate attacks in Kwara and Niger states.
Of the rescued victims, 163 were freed from Woro Community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, while another 145 people were rescued after a separate abduction incident in Niger State.
