Super Eagles Fall Four Places In New FIFA Ranking, Drop Further In Africa

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have fallen to 30th in the latest FIFA men’s world ranking released on Wednesday, dropping four places from their previous position.

The three-time African champions also slipped two spots in Africa to sixth. Algeria and Côte d’Ivoire have now moved above Nigeria in the continental ranking.

The fall came after a tough international window for Eric Chelle’s team. Nigeria started with a 2-1 win over Madagascar in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers but then suffered a 3-0 loss to Guinea-Bissau.

The Eagles ended the window with a 3-3 draw against Russia in an international friendly in Nizhny Novgorod on Tuesday.

Nigeria had been Africa’s fourth-best ranked team in the previous FIFA ranking, behind Morocco, Senegal and Egypt.

Morocco remain Africa’s top-ranked side in seventh place globally, followed by Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, Côte d’Ivoire and Nigeria. DR Congo, Cameroon, Mali and Tunisia complete Africa’s top 10.

Spain remain number one in the world, ahead of Argentina, France, England and Portugal. Brazil, Morocco, Belgium, Netherlands and Mexico make up the rest of the global top 10.
