Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri has reportedly agreed to join Barcelona this summer, according to journalist Gerard Romero on Jijantes FC.
Real Madrid had long been linked with the Spanish star and were said to have agreed personal terms with him while also holding talks with Manchester City. But delays in reaching a final agreement gave Barcelona the chance to step in. The Catalan club acted quickly and reportedly secured the 2026 FIFA World Cup winner’s verbal approval.
Barcelona are now expected to begin work on completing the transfer.
The club had recently moved ahead of Real Madrid in the race after talks between Los Blancos and Manchester City stalled. They were waiting for a positive response from the 30-year-old before pushing ahead.
Several of Rodri’s Spain teammates who play for Barcelona are believed to have spoken with him in recent weeks, encouraging him to make the move to Spotify Camp Nou.
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick also reportedly held direct talks with the 2026 World Cup Golden Ball winner, outlining the club’s sporting plans. Those conversations are said to have helped convince the midfielder to accept the move.
Barcelona must now negotiate Rodri’s contract, although his wages are expected to be a major issue. The club also needs to reach an agreement with Manchester City over a transfer fee.
Despite Rodri entering the final year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City are expected to ask for at least €60 million.
If the transfer is completed, Barcelona would strengthen their midfield with an experienced world-class player, especially after Frenkie de Jong’s injury reduced Hansi Flick’s options.
