A senator representing one of Osun State’s senatorial districts has come under fire after allegedly calling on supporters to kill members of the Accord Party ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The All Progressives Congress member made the remarks in a video shared by Afrobeat singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
Davido described the lawmaker as a sitting senator and shared an English translation of his comments.
According to the translation, … said, “From now on, whenever you see Accord members, kill them. I authorise you to kill them. They have wives and children too.
“This is a Federal Government election. On election day, even if they come with voter cards, we won’t allow them to vote.”
The senator was seen speaking to supporters in Yoruba about the Accord Party and the election.
In another part of the remarks, he allegedly said, “What kind of life is that? If we hear anything about Accord in Ilesa here, record me and go and tell them.
“When we tell them, the cap they are putting on is a bad one, yellow one.
“So, we have come to tell you now, from now till the election day, if we see them, kill them o.”
The comments come days before Osun voters head to the polls, with incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke seeking re-election on the Accord Party platform.
If accurately translated and presented in context, the remarks could raise fresh concerns about political violence and intimidation in the state.
The development comes amid repeated calls from security agencies, political parties and election stakeholders for supporters to reject violence and ensure a peaceful election.
Political tensions have also risen in Osun, with rival camps accusing each other of intimidation and inflammatory rhetoric.
