The Ogun State Government has approved ₦50,000 for each of the 3,050 members of the 2026 Batch C, Stream I of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) currently undergoing orientation at the camp in Sagamu.
The support, approved by Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration, aims to ease the impact of economic challenges on young Nigerians and support corps members serving in the state.
A statement signed by the State Commissioner for Sports Development, Wasiu Isiaka, and made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, said payment began on Monday. Each eligible corps member will receive ₦50,000 to cover personal and essential needs during orientation.
The statement said, “The initiative underscores the state government’s recognition of the contributions of corps members to national development and its commitment to promoting their welfare, comfort and overall well-being throughout their service year.”
It added that the government understands the financial and personal demands facing corps members who are away from their families and familiar surroundings.
Beyond the cash support, the state has approved 500 mattresses for the Sagamu orientation camp to improve accommodation for corps members.
The move follows an increase in the number of corps members posted to Ogun State, making more investment in camp facilities and essential amenities necessary.
The government also urged corps members to uphold discipline, patriotism, tolerance and selfless service while using the NYSC scheme to contribute meaningfully to their host communities and the country.
