The father of late singer Toluwani Sings, Muniru Adekunle Olayemi, has appealed to his son’s wife to allow him to bury the singer at home or in the family compound rather than in a church or cemetery.
Toluwani died on October 14, 2026, and his burial plans have reportedly caused a disagreement between his father and wife.
Speaking in a recent interview, Olayemi said he contacted his son’s wife after learning about the death online. He asked her to let him bury Toluwani at home, but she reportedly insisted on a cemetery burial.
The grieving father said he would be happy to have his son buried in his house, where prayers could also be held.
“I don’t want him buried in a church or cemetery. I want him buried in his house and that will make me happy,” he said.
Olayemi also explained that Toluwani went to live with his maternal family after his mother died in 1992, a few months after his birth.
He said he brought his wife’s body back from Kano, but her family demanded to see her corpse. They later asked him to leave the baby with them to avoid the added pain of caring for him while mourning his mother.
According to Olayemi, the family raised Toluwani, and his maternal relatives’ Christian faith influenced the religious environment in which he grew up.
However, he maintained that his son’s Muslim name was Sodiq Olayemi Bayonle, although he was popularly known as Toluwani Sings.
He added that he stayed in touch with his son and that his family supported the singer’s education.
Olayemi is now urging his son’s wife and others involved in the burial plans to respect his wish to bury Toluwani at home.
