An 18-year-old woman, Fatima Dalha, has allegedly stabbed her 30-year-old husband in the stomach during a disagreement over money, wrappers and a phone in Lirr Bajar, Dass Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafi’u Habib, confirmed the incident to journalists, saying it happened at about 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2026.
According to Habib, the argument began when Dalha demanded her money, wrappers and phone, which she claimed her husband was keeping. The disagreement later turned violent when she allegedly picked up a nearby knife and stabbed him.
The husband fell and bled, prompting angry residents to gather and threaten to lynch the woman. However, police officers from Dass Division arrived and rescued her from the crowd.
The injured husband was taken to a hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
“In a moment of rage and desperation, Fatima reached for a knife lying close by and stabbed her husband in the stomach. The husband fell, bleeding. The neighbourhood erupted. An angry mob gathered, ready to lynch the young woman.
“Behind the uniform, behind the case file, are two young lives, a marriage of barely months, now shattered by anger that could have been resolved with words.”
Police said the suspect had been detained, while the knife allegedly used in the attack was recovered. The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for discreet investigation.
Habib added that Commissioner of Police CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu expressed concern over rising domestic violence among young couples. He urged couples to settle disputes peacefully through family members, elders and lawful channels.
The commissioner also warned against jungle justice, assuring that the command would ensure justice was served professionally and humanely.
