Mohbad’s Family Kicks As US Lab’s Identity Remains Unknown Ahead Of DNA Test

The family of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has called for the postponement of the DNA test scheduled to establish whether Liam is his biological son.

The family wants the identity and address of the United States laboratory expected to analyse the samples disclosed before the exercise proceeds.

Family head, Samuel Aloba, made the demand in a statement on Thursday, October 29, 2026. The test is scheduled for Saturday, October 31, at Mainland General Hospital/IDH, Yaba, Lagos.

The family questioned whether the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, named in a May 5, 2026 court order, would conduct the test or simply send samples abroad.

“This raises a fundamental question that must be answered before the exercise proceeds: Is the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre itself going to conduct the examination contemplated by the court, or is it merely going to collect and dispatch samples to another laboratory?” the statement read.

It also requested the foreign laboratory’s accreditation details, testing methods and records showing how samples would be collected, labelled, preserved and transported. The family wants safeguards to confirm that the samples analysed are the same ones collected in Lagos.

It raised concerns about possible mishandling or interference but stressed that it was not claiming the proposed test had already been compromised.

The family also questioned the handling of biological samples during Mohbad’s post-mortem and claimed its enquiries suggested that a laboratory expected to receive earlier samples had not received them. It stressed that this claim had not been independently established or confirmed by a court.

Although it supports a credible DNA test, the family wants all outstanding issues addressed, proper notice given to the parties and court clarification where necessary before the exercise takes place.

It said its aim was to ensure the result was reliable, transparent and open to independent verification.
