The Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has sentenced Idris Ashimiyu to life imprisonment for defiling an 11-year-old girl.
Justice Abiola Soladoye delivered the judgment on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, after finding him guilty of a one-count charge filed by the Lagos State Government. Ashimiyu had pleaded not guilty during his arraignment.
The prosecution, led by A.A. Adeniyi, called the survivor as its only witness. She told the court she was 13 at the time of the trial and 11 when the incident happened.
She said she knew Ashimiyu because he ran errands and washed cars in their compound. According to her testimony, he touched her and inserted his genital into her private part. Her grandmother later found her with him. Ashimiyu was beaten before being taken to the police station.
His lawyer, A.O. Ayode, called one witness, Ibrahim, who said he was at work when the incident occurred and heard about it from a neighbour. He added that Ashimiyu told him he was only playing with the girl and had not assaulted her.
Justice Soladoye said the survivor’s testimony was credible and consistent, and the prosecution proved she was a child who did not consent to the act. She also noted that Ashimiyu did not testify in his own defence.
The judge said, “I am satisfied that the prosecution has proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. I therefore find Ashimiyu guilty as charged,”
She sentenced him to life imprisonment and ordered that his name be added to the Lagos State Sexual Offenders Register.
“The name of the convict shall be entered into the Sexual Offenders Register maintained by Lagos State,” she added.
