A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to replace Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma with former governor Rochas Okorocha as the APC senatorial candidate for Imo West.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu gave the order on Thursday after ruling that Uzodinma did not win the party’s senatorial primary held on May 18 and monitored by INEC.
According to reports, the judge said evidence presented before the court showed that Okorocha received the highest number of votes in the primary election.
The ruling means the APC must submit Okorocha’s name to INEC as its candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections.
The court’s decision comes ahead of the next general elections, with INEC fixing January 16, 2027, for the presidential, senatorial and House of Representatives polls.
