A Nigerian lawyer has called for Meta to be held accountable for its treatment of Nigerian users after five Instagram accounts belonging to someone close to him were restored following a demand letter.
The lawyer, who uses the username @rasheed_esq on X, said the accounts had been permanently disabled since February 1 without any explanation.
According to his post, he sent a demand letter to Meta on September 23 over the matter. He later announced that all five accounts had been restored.
“On Sept. 23, I sent Meta a demand letter after someone dear to me had her Instagram accounts permanently disabled since Feb. 1, without explanation.
“Yesterday, all 5 accounts got restored.
“It’s time Meta was held accountable for how it treats Nigerian users.”
The lawyer used the experience to renew his call for greater accountability from Meta over its treatment of Nigerians on its platforms.
