Kano Lawmaker Suspended for Allegedly Insulting Governor Yusuf

The Kano State House of Assembly has suspended Yusuf Bello Aliyu, who represents Nasarawa Local Government Area, for three months over alleged insulting remarks against Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The decision was made during Wednesday’s plenary on October 21, 2026. The assembly also barred Aliyu from taking part in any legislative activities throughout the suspension period.

The action followed a video showing the lawmaker holding a rabbit by its ears while making comments allegedly seen as insulting to the governor.

Before the suspension, the assembly had announced plans to invite Aliyu over the video to explain his actions.

Speaking after Wednesday’s plenary, Lawan Hussaini Dala said the suspended lawmaker must appear before the assembly and publicly apologise to Governor Yusuf.

The suspension means Aliyu will be unable to participate in the assembly’s legislative activities for the next three months.
