I Won 2023 Presidential Election, But There’s No Evidence – Peter Obi

Peter Obi has admitted that he has no evidence to prove that he won the 2023 presidential election, but said he remains convinced that he did.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate made the statement during a recent BBC Africa interview while discussing the 2023 election and his decision to contest again in 2027.

Asked if he had evidence to support his claim, Obi said, “There’s no evidence. Everything is not based on evidence.”

He then insisted, “I won the election and that’s where I will end. I don’t like going back to the past. I won the election (2023). Well, there’s no evidence but I won the election.”

On his claims that the election was rigged despite the courts rejecting his legal challenge, Obi said, “I don’t like going back to the past. I sustain what I said.”

Obi contested the February 25, 2023 election for the Labour Party and finished third, according to INEC results. Bola Tinubu of the APC won with 8,794,726 votes, while PDP’s Atiku Abubakar got 6,984,520. Obi polled 6,101,533.

The Presidential Election Petitions Court dismissed Obi and Labour Party’s petition on September 6, 2023. The Supreme Court later dismissed his appeal on October 26 and upheld Tinubu’s victory.

Despite the court rulings, Obi has continued to reject the result as a true reflection of voters’ wishes.

He is now preparing for the 2027 presidential election as the NDC candidate.
