Five People Die As Fully Loaded Diesel Tanker Crashes Into Commercial Cars In Ibadan

Five people have died after a fully loaded 45,000-litre diesel tanker crashed into several commercial vehicles in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The accident happened on Saturday, October 17, at Aduloju Bus Stop, opposite Dominion City, along the busy Iwo Road–Ojoo Expressway.

Emergency responders said the victims were two men, including a commercial car driver, and three female passengers.

Initial findings by the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) showed that the tanker suffered sudden brake failure while moving at high speed. The driver reportedly lost control, causing the heavy vehicle to swerve and crush several Nissan Micra commercial cars. Some passengers became trapped in the wreckage.

The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the deaths and said the Commissioner of Police ordered officers to the scene to prevent further danger, including possible fuel explosions and looting.

Teams from the Nigerian Police, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and OYRTMA worked together to control traffic, rescue trapped passengers and remove the wrecked vehicles.

The operation helped clear the affected road and manage the situation after the deadly crash.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the five victims have been recovered and taken to the Adeoyo Hospital Mortuary.
