EndSARS: ‘He Gave That Order’ — Nigerians React As Old Tinubu Video On Lekki Toll Gate Shooting Resurfaces (WATCH)

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has faced criticism on social media after an old video of him discussing victims of the October 20, 2020, Lekki Toll Gate shooting resurfaced. Some Nigerians have accused him of ordering the shooting.

In the video now circulating online, Tinubu appeared to suggest that victims of the incident should also explain their presence at the protest.

He said: “Those who suffered the casualties during the gunshot need to answer some questions too. How were they there, and how long were they there? What kind of characters are they? Even though we want to help, we still must extract information that will help the government prepare in the future or understand how and when to react.”

The #EndSARS protest began in October 2020 as a youth-led movement against alleged police brutality, especially abuses linked to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). It later expanded into nationwide calls for police reform, accountability and better governance.

On October 20, 2020, protesters gathered at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos to demonstrate against police brutality, making the incident one of the movement’s most significant moments.

DAILY POST gathered several reactions from X users following the video’s return.

@Shadedylegend wrote: “That’s was an open confession! He gave that order.”

@ChatOlumide said Tinubu had always been clueless and accused the APC government of bringing pain to Nigerians.

@browntechn asked: “This is who you guys voted for?”

@Oneofoneng added: “He never hid his cluelessness.”

Other users, including @AbayomiWole, @Eng_howard7, @Vince_da_rapp, @AdinduWis, @tornado_guns and @chides2793517, also criticised Tinubu, alleging that politicians showed little regard for Nigerian lives.
