2027: Plot to Assassinate Atiku Surfaces, APC Denies Allegations

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has denied claims of a plot to assassinate former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.

Dele Alake, the APC campaign spokesman, rejected the allegation while responding to claims by Timi Frank, an ADC member.

The council urged Frank to submit any evidence he has to law enforcement agencies for a prompt investigation. It stressed that every credible threat to life must be taken seriously, regardless of political affiliation.

The APC campaign team also denied that President Bola Tinubu, the Presidency or the party was involved in any plan to target Atiku or other opposition figures.

It further dismissed reports that Atiku’s security protection had been withdrawn, insisting that the former vice president remains protected by the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS).

According to the statement, Tinubu recently directed security agencies to strengthen protection for all presidential, vice-presidential, governorship and deputy governorship candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Alake described the assassination claims as “typical opposition rabble-rousing” intended to heat up the political atmosphere and attract international attention through social media.

“Let our political competition be peaceful, lawful, and focused on the big issues that matter to Nigerians, not character assassination or wild, baseless allegations,” the statement read.

The council also highlighted Tinubu’s long history in opposition politics and urged candidates, parties and supporters to remain factual and responsible while supporting a peaceful democratic process as campaigns intensify nationwide.
