Church Chains Jesus’ Statue To Prevent Another Fall After Ecuadorian Priest’s Death

An unidentified church has taken extra safety measures by fastening a moulded image of Jesus Christ’s crucifixion to a wall with heavy chains to stop it from falling on priests and other ministers during services.

A video circulating on social media captured the unusual precaution, showing the crucifix firmly secured with chains.

In the footage, a priest wearing a helmet stood almost directly beneath the chained crucifix while blessing a sacrament at the altar. Two altar boys stood beside him on either side.

The move is believed to have followed the death of Ecuadorian priest Patricio Alfredo Sánchez Molinari on October 17, 2026, after a large wooden crucifix fell on him during a church service.

Sánchez Molinari died while celebrating mass at a church in Guayaquil. The crucifix, which was positioned behind the altar, fell onto his head.

The tragic incident was captured during a livestream. Members of the congregation were seen crying as they tried to pull the priest from beneath the fallen structure.

However, it remains unclear whether the unidentified church secured its crucifix with heavy chains specifically to prevent a similar tragedy from happening.
