Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has condemned the attack on his party’s supporters in Enugu State, urging those behind the violence to stop before the situation gets out of hand.
Obi, who spoke in a video posted on X, said political violence could eventually affect everyone, including those responsible for it.
He also revealed that some of his planned visits to different states were cancelled after the people who invited him reportedly received threats.
The latest incident happened on Saturday at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, where suspected thugs attacked NDC supporters who had gathered to welcome the party’s governorship candidate, Chinyeaka Ohaa.
The attack reportedly left one person dead.
The incident came barely a month after the NDC accused “state-sponsored thugs” of attacking its members during a grassroots meeting in Obuoffia Ward, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Reacting to the latest violence, Obi said, “The unfortunate incident that happened today in Enugu State, where NDC supporters were attacked by political thugs, has reportedly claimed one life.
“Those in government should know that when anarchy comes, it consumes everybody.”
