Nigeria’s Flamingos Make History, Demolish Brazil To Storm Into U-17 World Cup Final

Nigeria’s Flamingos have secured a historic place in the final of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after defeating Brazil 3-1 in Wednesday’s semi-final in Morocco.

The victory makes Nigeria the first African country to reach the final of the competition.

After a goalless first half, Queen Joseph opened the scoring for the Flamingos in the 56th minute. She finished off a pass from Omowunmi Adegbuyi to put Nigeria ahead.

Amina Bashiru extended the lead in the 71st minute after Joseph set her up for the second goal.

Bashiru struck again in the 80th minute, completing her brace with an assist from O. Umejiaku to make it 3-0.

Brazil managed to score a consolation goal in the 89th minute through Greise Kelly, who received a pass from Queiroz. However, it was too late to change the result as Nigeria held on for a 3-1 win.

The Flamingos also dominated several areas of the game, recording 41 attempts on goal against Brazil’s eight. They created five big chances, while their opponents failed to create any.

Despite having just 42 per cent possession compared with Brazil’s 58 per cent, Nigeria recorded 65 touches in the opposition box, while Brazil managed only 11.

The victory sends Nigeria into the final, where they will face Japan.
