‘Adjust Is Not Suffering, Cut Down Your Lifestyle’ — Pres. Tinubu’s Aide, Issa-Onilu, Tells Nigerians As Economic Hardship Bites Harder

President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser, Issa-Onilu, has called on Nigerians to change their spending habits and adjust their lifestyles to match their financial situations amid the country’s economic challenges.

He made the call during an appearance on Channels Television’s Political Paradigm, where he said managing personal resources, including electricity, was part of every citizen’s responsibility.

Issa-Onilu argued that Nigerians should adopt better energy-saving habits, pointing to how people in other countries switch off electrical appliances when they leave home for work.

“You must have travelled abroad. You don’t go to anybody’s house as we speak, who has gone to work and you see the AC working or you see the light on,” he said.

He added that many Nigerians still leave their lights and air conditioners running unnecessarily.

“Go to many homes in this country, we do that. So, we also must manage our lifestyle, it’s part of our responsibility.”

The presidential aide also urged citizens to see spending adjustments as a way of living within their means rather than suffering.

“People must now understand that you have a responsibility to look at yourself and say, how do I adjust? Adjust is not suffering, adjust is living within your means,” he said.

Meanwhile, Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, acknowledged the hardship caused by the Tinubu administration’s reforms.

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, she said the decisions were necessary to address long-standing economic problems.

“Those decisions came at a cost and Nigerian families have felt it. No one in this government takes that sacrifice lightly, least of all Mr President,” she said.

“But I say to you today, with conviction, that the sacrifice is not in vain. The results are beginning to show.”
