Academic activities have been disrupted at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo State, as the university’s chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) began an indefinite strike on Thursday.
The union took the action after the university management failed to meet its demands within a 14-day ultimatum. Its demands include implementing the 2025 Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN)-ASUU Agreement and paying related arrears dating back to January 2026.
ASUU is also seeking immediate payment of unpaid Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) and promotion arrears covering 2013 to 2025.
The union said the university’s Governing Council had formally approved the December 2025 FGN-ASUU Agreement. However, it accused the management of repeatedly blaming a lack of funds for the delay in implementation.
The dispute also covers administrative issues, including the composition of the Staff Disciplinary Committee, the reconstitution of the Committee of Provosts and Deans, and transparency in the university’s electronic voting system.
In a statement signed by branch Chairperson Prof. Olujimi Dada and Secretary Dr Soji Arinola, ASUU said repeated formal and informal talks had failed to resolve the issues.
The union explained that it began the indefinite strike after exhausting several options for reaching an agreement.
It urged members to remain united during the action and ignore any information or directives not issued directly by the branch chairperson.
ASUU stressed that only directives from the branch chairperson should be considered authentic throughout the strike.
