Senate President Godswill Akpabio has accused people attacking President Bola Tinubu and his supporters on social media of receiving payment for their actions.
He made the claim on Wednesday while meeting members of the Arewa Revival Project, a northern youth group, in his office.
The group, led by its coordinator, Mustafa Ibrahim, has members from all 19 northern states. It presented Akpabio with an award for his contributions to nation-building.
During the meeting, Akpabio urged the youths to increase grassroots campaigns for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. He warned them to expect strong opposition from critics online.
“Most of those who are attacking the President and attacking these young men on social media are being paid,” Akpabio alleged.
He encouraged the group to speak directly with Nigerians and challenge what he described as false claims about the government’s performance.
Akpabio defended Tinubu’s policies, saying they were aimed at stabilising the economy and creating a better future for young people. He also praised the administration’s tax reforms and efforts to change outdated laws, which he said would strengthen the economy and reduce the country’s reliance on crude oil revenue.
The Senate President further claimed that Tinubu had recorded an unprecedented level of development since taking office.
He added that members of the National Assembly were satisfied with the President’s performance and had endorsed his second-term bid.
Akpabio urged the northern youths to remain committed to mobilising support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
