After Asking Senate To Approve $20.52bn And €1.05bn In External Loans, Tinubu Jets Out To Makkah To Pray For Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu is set to leave Abuja on Thursday (Today) for Makkah, Saudi Arabia, to perform Umrah, an Islamic pilgrimage that involves prayers and other religious rites.

His Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement dated October 28, 2026, explaining that the trip would give the President time for spiritual reflection and prayers for Nigeria.

During the visit, Tinubu is expected to carry out the required Umrah rites and seek Allah’s guidance and blessings for the country and its people. His prayers will focus on Nigeria’s peace, unity, stability and continued progress.

However, before leaving the country, the President will commission equipment acquired by the Nigerian Air Force. The ceremony will take place at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria next week after completing the spiritual exercise.

The trip comes after the President asked the Senate to approve the Federal Government’s 2026–2027 Supplementary External Borrowing Plan.

The plan involves $20.52bn and €1.05bn, which the government intends to use to fund infrastructure and development projects across the country.
