Cristiano Ronaldo has encouraged Paris Saint-Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to stay confident after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.
The Portuguese star, who has been Kvaratskhelia’s childhood idol, sent the message as the 25-year-old prepares for surgery and a difficult recovery period.
According to Fabrizio Romano on X on Wednesday, Ronaldo said, “The hardest battles in football are often ones nobody sees.
“I know that feeling, Kvara. But never forget what brought you this far, and don’t let a difficult moment make you doubt how far you can go.
“Keep that fire on. Your best is still to come,” the Portuguese forward added.
Kvaratskhelia injured his right knee during PSG’s UEFA Champions League match against Barcelona. The French club confirmed that the winger would undergo surgery in the coming days.
The setback came after he had been in strong form before being forced off during the match.
Reacting to the diagnosis, the Georgian international admitted he was struggling to accept the situation, despite preparing thoroughly for the game.
“Why me? I was not ready for this,” he said in an emotional statement.
However, Kvaratskhelia promised to work hard during rehabilitation and return stronger for his supporters.
“I know I have to come back stronger for my people who always support me. I won’t let you down; I promise I won’t waste a second. Thank you all for your support, see you soon,” he added.
Ronaldo’s words carry special meaning for the winger, who has admired the five-time Ballon d’Or winner since childhood.
The message offers encouragement as Kvaratskhelia begins his recovery and hopes to return to the pitch stronger.
