Lisandro Martinez Faces Sanction After Lambasting Man United Management Following Brutal UCL Loss

Manchester United are reportedly considering a fine for Lisandro Martinez after the defender openly criticised the club’s leadership following their 2-0 Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid.

The Argentine defender questioned United’s summer signings and demanded more investment to help the team compete with other clubs.

“We did a fantastic season last season and now we expect more from the top, more players to compete because many teams bring many players as well,” he said.

“I expect more [investment]. 100 per cent. I expect more from our technical director.

“Tonight it is easy to blame the coach, easy to say the players, but also we have to see other areas.”

Martinez also questioned the club’s repeated changes of managers.

“You can’t keep changing, changing, changing the manager. What about other areas?” he asked.

The Athletic’s Manchester United correspondent, Laurie Whitwell, reported that a fine was considered “inevitable”. However, other players reportedly share Martinez’s concerns about recruitment and the club’s direction.

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano also reported on Wednesday that United were weighing possible disciplinary action.

“Lisandro Martínez not the only player at Manchester United with that view of the situation at club level. Man United assessing possible sanction/fine for Licha, as reports,” Romano wrote on X.

Martinez’s contract expires in June 2027, but United can extend it until 2028. He later insisted he would not “close my mouth” about his concerns and urged the club to show greater ambition.

His comments have divided opinion, with some backing his criticism and others warning it could hurt team unity.

United are winless in five matches and face Leeds United on Sunday as manager Michael Carrick seeks better results amid growing scrutiny.
