Gamji College of Health Technology, Sokoto, has denied reports that 18 of its students were abducted while travelling to Oyo State.
The college, in a Monday statement signed by its Registrar, Bello Abdulrahman, described the report of the alleged abduction by suspected terrorists as “false and misleading”.
An online media platform had earlier reported that the students were kidnapped while travelling to Oyo and that their driver was shot dead.
But the institution said the report was untrue and confirmed that none of its students was abducted.
“The College wishes to categorically state that the said report is FALSE, MISLEADING and does not reflect the true situation,” the institution stated.
It added that “no student of Gamji College of Health Technology, Sokoto, was kidnapped, and there was no such incident involving our students.”
According to the management, all the students are safe and have reached their respective destinations.
The college urged parents, guardians and members of the public to ignore the report and stop sharing it.
“We urge the general public, parents, guardians and all stakeholders to disregard the fake news and avoid sharing it further,” the statement said.
It also assured students, parents and other stakeholders that their safety and welfare remain a priority and said it would continue working with security agencies to maintain a safe learning environment.
