JAMB Reveals Plan To Open UTME Centre In Canada, Nigerians Abroad To Benefit

JAMB is planning to open a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) centre in Ottawa, Canada, from 2027.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board disclosed the plan after its Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, visited the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa.

The proposed centre will enable eligible Nigerians living in Canada and other parts of North America to write the UTME without travelling to Nigeria for the examination.

JAMB said the move is designed to make the test easier to access for Nigerians in the diaspora, especially those seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.

The board said the initiative is part of its efforts to take Nigerian tertiary education to the world and strengthen the link between Nigerians abroad and the country’s education system.

“For Nigerians in Canada, the UTME is coming closer to home,” the board said.

According to JAMB, the Ottawa centre will give more Nigerians in North America a chance to pursue Nigerian tertiary education while reducing the difficulty and cost-related barriers linked to travelling to Nigeria for the test.

The board said it is “working towards establishing a UTME examination centre in Ottawa, Canada, expected to commence operations in 2027.”
