Five Men Land in Prison for Wearing ‘Tinubu Must Go’ T-Shirts in Maiduguri

The Borno State Police Command has arrested and charged five men over T-shirts carrying the inscription “Tinubu Must Go” in Maiduguri.

The suspects are Baba Aji Gremami, 44; Mustapha Abba Yemen, 28; Abbacha Mohammed Ali, 32; Adam Umar Gubio, 21; and Abdulhamid Mohammed, 21.

A First Information Report (FIR) dated September 29, 2026, issued by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Maiduguri, accused the men of criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, disturbance of public peace and thuggery.

Police alleged that on September 25, the five men worked together to print the shirts and planned to cause a breach of public peace around the West End Roundabout area of Maiduguri.

The alleged offences were said to violate Sections 60, 78, 79 and 392 of the Borno State Penal Code. The officer in charge then directed that the suspects be taken before the Chief Magistrate Court in Maiduguri.

A source alleged that their arrest followed a directive from Borno Governor Babagana Umara Zulum to Commissioner of Police CP Naziru Abdulmajid over the shirts.

The suspects were reportedly taken to court and remanded in a correctional facility.

The arrests come as political activities increase ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections. Details of the court proceedings and remand terms were not established as of the time of filing this report.
