A 20-year-old phone and gadget seller, Olusola Olumide, has recounted how he allegedly crushed a police sergeant to death in Lagos State.
The incident happened on Olugbede Street in Egbeda while police officers were carrying out a stop-and-search operation.
Olumide reportedly stopped after officers signalled him. But when Sergeant Johnson Okediji moved towards the driver’s side, he suddenly drove off.
The sergeant was knocked down and dragged under the vehicle for several metres. Police officers and passers-by reportedly tried several times to make Olumide stop, but he continued driving.
He was later chased and arrested.
Sergeant Okediji suffered multiple fractures and serious head injuries. He was first taken to a nearby hospital and later referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).
However, he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
