Agbeniga Taye, a commander of the security forces in Idofin-Ayekale, Oke Ero Local Government Area of Kwara State, has been killed by suspected bandits while reportedly defending his community.
Two people were also reportedly kidnapped during the Thursday evening attack, according to a source who spoke to SaharaReporters.
The source said Taye was killed while trying to protect residents from the attackers.
A video from the scene showed the slain commander’s body being carried on the shoulders of two people after the attack.
The incident comes amid growing concerns over insecurity in Kwara South, where several communities have suffered attacks and kidnapping in recent years.
Residents in parts of the region have repeatedly raised concerns about suspected bandits and kidnappers, fearing that continued attacks could put rural communities and residents at greater risk.
Taye’s death has also raised concerns about the safety of communities in the area and the risks faced by local security personnel working to protect residents.
