“They Sprayed Us Something In The Cell” — Survivor Of Niger Miner’s Incident Reveals What Happened That Killed 37 In NSCDC Custody

One of the survivors of the incident that claimed the lives of 37 suspected illegal gold miners in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has opened up about what happened inside the cell.

He said 17 detainees were first locked inside a small room before more people were brought in.

According to him, those inside the room complained about the limited space and the intense heat, but they were not moved.

“They locked us in a very small room. We were 17 in number, then they added more people, and we started complaining that the room was small,” he said.

The survivor said the situation got worse when they were told to stand as the room was about to be locked.

He also alleged that an unknown substance was sprayed inside the room. He said it looked like perfume and its smell soon became difficult for those inside to bear.

“As they were about to lock the room, they sprayed something that looked like perfume, and the smell started disturbing everyone in the room,” he said.
