First Lady Sen. Oluremi Tinubu has honoured Maryam Ibrahim Dan’Azumi after her victory in the women’s category of the 46th King Abdulaziz International Qur’anic Competition in Makah, Saudi Arabia.
Tinubu presented Dan’Azumi with N20 million during the ceremony in Abuja on Tuesday. She was accompanied by her father, Ibrahim Dan’Azumi, Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya and other state government officials.
The First Lady said Maryam’s achievement was a source of pride for Nigeria and the girl child worldwide. She also praised her parents for supporting her education and helping develop her talent.
Tinubu said the victory was both a personal success and a national achievement, as Maryam had placed Nigeria on the global stage through her mastery of the Holy Qur’an.
She also praised Maryam’s elder sister, Hajara, who won a similar competition in Jordan in 2024. Tinubu commended their parents, teachers, mentors and Governor Yahaya for their support.
“Maryam’s achievement show the value of hard work, discipline and dedication.
“I urge her to embrace mentorship as she advances in her education,” Tinubu said.
She said education remains a major priority of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, with focus on inclusive education and opportunities for young Nigerians to develop their talents.
The First Lady also offered to support Dan’Azumi’s pursuit of a postgraduate degree.
Yahaya said Gombe was not deficient in education and described Maryam’s achievement as a source of pride for the state and Nigeria.
He noted that she had advanced through local and national Qur’anic competitions before reaching the international contest.
Dan’Azumi thanked Tinubu for the honour, saying the Saudi competition gave her global exposure. She hoped her achievement would encourage other young Nigerians to work harder and excel.
She later presented her award to the First Lady and urged youths to develop themselves mentally and physically.
