The Federal Government has fulfilled President Bola Tinubu’s promised cash reward to D’Tigress players following their historic 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket victory.
The National Sports Commission (NSC) said the naira equivalent of $100,000 was paid to each player, while every team official received the equivalent of $50,000 on September 9, 2026. All recipients confirmed receiving the funds.
The payment completes the reward package, which also included three-bedroom flats in Abuja and national honours of the Order of the Niger (OON).
The NSC said the players and officials received their apartment title documents, including Certificates of Occupancy, and national honours certificates in February 2026. The documents were signed by President Tinubu.
D’Tigress acknowledged the payment on Thursday through its official X account with the caption: “Presidential reward acknowledged.”
The NSC said the rewards recognise outstanding sporting achievements and support athletes’ welfare.
Meanwhile, the Super Falcons have received their apartment documents and national honours after their 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations victory. Their cash rewards are expected before their next official engagements.
D’Tigress won a record fifth consecutive and seventh overall FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title in 2025.
