Vigilante Member Dies During Sex In Osun, Police Begin Probe

The Osun State Police Command has arrested a woman after a vigilante member, identified as Sunday and popularly known as Apetu, died shortly after a sexual encounter with her in Ile-Ife.

Apetu reportedly became severely distressed and later died on Sunday in the Odi-Olokun area. The woman was taken to the Moore Police Division as police began investigating the incident.

A video shared on social media showed Apetu in distress on Ooni Ilare Street, where he was heard asking the woman to give him urine. A situation report attributed to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps said he was gasping and screaming after the encounter before dying shortly afterwards.

His remains were taken to the morgue at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex. The incident reportedly happened around 2:30pm.

Residents have given different accounts, with some claiming he died from a “thunderbolt,” a traditional belief linked to alleged supernatural effects after sexual contact. Police said there is no official confirmation of this claim and urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information.

A senior police officer said the cause of death would be established through investigation and medical procedures. The woman’s arrest does not mean she caused the death, as no cause of death or criminal charge has been officially established.
